A SPECIAL OFF-SITE PROJECT
SHARON EYAL LIVE IN THE LOADING BAY
21 — 23 October 2021
Sharon Eyal is one of the most radical choreographers working today. As well as creating a repertoire of critically acclaimed original works for dance companies around the world, she has made notable projects outside the dance world, working with American rock band The National, Maria Grazia Chiuri at Dior and electronic musician and producer Koreless.
Sharon Eyal’s work is in demand worldwide and her unmistakable style is iconic. Known for propulsive performances that fuse classical dance with underground club culture, she seizes darkness with intention. Punctuating her sharp and brutal choreography with vulnerability and emotional depth, Eyal harnesses the human body to assume a grave beauty, capturing the raw condition of human expression — the brutal journey of the heart.
Sharon Eyal, Gai Behar and their L-E-V Company have worked and performed at Bold Tendencies as part of our summer programme in Peckham since 2018. In 2019 Bold Tendencies organised L-E-V’s first UK Residency which brought the full company of dancers and creative team to London and included collaborations with music and arts organization Young, Jamie xx and Koreless, Harley Weir and George Rouy and National Youth Dance Company.
Located deep beneath the Selfridges Department Store on Oxford Street is a subterranean loading bay. Putting this space to a new, out-of-hours use, Bold Tendencies is working with Sharon Eyal to present a programme which celebrates the breadth and scale of her work to date — bringing together the combined forces of L-E-V Company, the dancers of tanzmainz and Rambert2 ensemble.
The project runs across three evenings and presents six of Eyal’s magnetic, uncompromising pieces — all masterworks in groupology, stamina and glitching exactness. The programme opens with the intense, tense beauty of O C D and energetic, rigorous glitter of Soul Chain for 17 dancers (this acclaimed work will be performed in the UK for the first time); followed by the the slow-motion glint of SARA and ultra aggression of Killer Pig; closing with the elegiac, enigmatic Love Chapter 2 and RAK MD LGD. Eyal created the unique and particular language of RAK MD LGD in the concrete spaces at Bold Tendencies and it will be reconsidered specially for this project.
